As many as 57,913 COVID-19 positive cases were reported in Salem till
25 th May 2021. According to
health department officials, there are 811 fatal cases till today.
During the COVID crisis, Thiagarajar Polytechnic and Sona
Institutions
are working for the welfare of
society. Chairman C. Valliappa handed over a letter of intent to Mr.V.Senthil
Balaji, Minister for
Electricity, Prohibition, and Excise in the presence of Mr.S.Karmegam, Salem
Collector and
Mr.R.Rajendran, Salem North Constituency MLA, Dr.V.Karthikeyan, Principal,
Thiagarajar
Polytechnic, Mr.Chocko Valliappa, Vice Chairman, Sona Groups, Dr.S.R.R Senthil
Kumar, Principal,
Sona College of Technology and Dr.G.M Kadhar Nawaz, Principal, Sona College of Arts
and Science.
Some of the initiatives are as followed.
They have donated Rs 1 crore worth of healthy meals five times a
day
to COVID patients at
Salem Steel Plant's Special Corona Treatment Centre.
In association with the Salem government hospitals, they have
also set
up a Quarantine center
inside Sona Institutions with 100+ beds for the COVID patients
